Welcome to the Dean of Students Office

The East Carolina University Dean of Students Office is the central campus resource for addressing student complaints and inquiries. All issues and concerns need to be filed through this office. The Dean of Students is the official ECU office to contact for discrimination complaints against students.

Staff members are available to discuss general and specific questions and concerns about university life, transitional issues, policies, procedures and University services. This includes support with academic, personal, or social issues and concerns, assistance in adjusting to university life, and support in the event of a personal, medical or family emergency.

You can reach us by CALLING 252-328-9297 or by visiting us in 125 Umstead Hall.

Hurricane Florence Updated Information

If you need additional support regarding impacts from Hurricane Florence, please contact our office by emailing dos@ecu.edu or calling 252-328-9297.

Are you considering long-term academic options? See below for additional information:

Extenuating Circumstance Term Withdraw - Withdraws the student from all registered courses for the specific term (e.g. Fall, Spring, Summer).

ACTION:  Click here to complete the Term Withdrawal Form.

Extenuating Circumstance Course Withdraw - Withdraws the student from one or more courses, but not all courses.

ACTION: Click here to complete the Course Withdrawal Form.

Course Incomplete - A grade of Incomplete (I) indicates that the completion of some part of the work for the course has been deferred. The grade of "I" is assigned at the discretion of the instructor when a student who is otherwise passing has not, due to circumstances beyond his/her control, completed all the work in the course. The grade of "I" should not be recorded for a student who has not completed the major portion of the work of the course. An "I" should not be given if the faculty member is uncertain that the student attended the course; in that case the grade of "F" should be assigned.

ACTION: The student should directly contact the faculty member for each course to discuss the incomplete options.

If you have already submitted a form, please do not submit duplicates. Check your “spam” or “other” folder, or email DOS@ecu.edu to get an update on your status.

We have moved! Beginning June 1st, the Dean of Students Office will be located in 125 Umstead Hall. Students can access the hallway by using the door closest to 10th St. and the Science and Technology Building. Please call our office at 252-328-9297 for directions or assistance.
