Student Veteran Orientation

You will get a student success pack and meals for attending, as well as a t-shirt to show your Pirate pride!

Veteran to Scholar Two Week Summer Bridge Program

In 2018, Veteran to Scholar will run from July 9-24 from 9 am to 2 pm.  Monday-Friday.  We will discuss such texts as Stephan Cranes' Red Badge of Courage, Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front, The Messenger (Oren  Moverman, 2009) and the soundtrack of Hamilton: The Musical.  Books, CDs, and snacks will be provided.

The first Veteran to Scholar program, supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities' Dialogues on the Experience of War Initiative, ran in August 2017 to prepare participants for their ECU careers by building soft skills necessary for university success, such as communication, critical reading, time management, and writing skills.  Participants honed their classroom skills by discussing war novels, films, and short stories, and toured relevant student success initiatives on campus.  This class in worth 3 humanities credits!  E-mail Dr. Froula froulaa@ecu.edu to register or if you have any questions.  Spots are limited.  Post 9/11 will pay for this class!
