Program Overview

EdS EL Grad flyerThe Educational Specialist (EdS) degree in educational administration and supervision is a sixth-year post master's degree which requires a minimum of 38 semester hours and is designed to prepare individuals for senior level leadership positions in education. The EdS is a 100% online program. Program studies are adapted for the challenges of unique school district roles such as personnel administrator, curriculum supervisor, and directors of special program areas.  Upon completion of the program, individuals are eligible to upgrade previously held licenses.

To apply to a degree program, applicants should:

  1. Complete the degree application at www.ecu.edu/gradschool/

  2. Take the GRE or MAT if the scores are more than five years old. These tests can be taken at the Testing Center, East Carolina University, D-102 Brewster, Greenville, NC 27858-4353 (telephone: 252-328-6811). Official score must accompany packet in order for it to be considered complete.
  3. Have transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work sent to the Graduate School as specified in the application.

EdS- must have a copy of Level I administration and/or supervision license and a current resume.

Once the application file is completed and received by the department, the faculty review all materials and make a recommendation to the Graduate School. The Graduate School notifies all applicants as to whether the application has been accepted or rejected.

Please note that the number of applications from qualified individuals generally exceed the number of spaces available for new students; therefore, meeting the guidelines listed does not guarantee admission into a program.

Candidates for the EdS program should have a master's degree and Level I licensure in administration and/or supervision. Evidence of three years of successful leadership experience is highly recommended for candidates applying to the EdS program.

This program is delivered completely online in a cohort model.
