We are very disappointed we could not move forward with commencement but severe weather including lightning as late as 9:15 a.m. made holding the ceremony outside a safety concern. Unfortunately, Minges Coliseum is not large enough to accommodate the 5,500 graduates and their guests for spring commencement.
However, most of our units hold individual recognition ceremonies Friday and Saturday for the graduates so they can celebrate with family and friends at a different time.
This decision was not made lightly. Weather in eastern North Carolina is often unpredictable and we wanted to be certain all information was considered before cancelling the event.
Official Commencement Programs will be handed out during the School/College/Department Recognition Ceremonies. Programs will also be available at the Information Desk in the Mendenhall Student Center and at the Dowdy Student Store.
Best wishes to our Class of 2017!
Welcome to the East Carolina University Commencement site. We hope this site provides Graduates with all the information you might need to apply for Commencement, RSVP for the Main Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 5th at 9:00a.m. in Dowdy Ficklen Stadium and obtain other information related to Commencement Weekend.
There is also helpful information for Faculty and staff about RSVPing and where to be on the day of Commencement festivities. There is a specific section for Family and friends that we hope will answer your questions. In the event you still have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to call or email us. Our phone number is 252-737-1023. Any specific Commencement questions can also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
Important Notes: On Friday, May 5th, Graduates should report to their School/College lineup area located in the concourse areas of the Stadium by 8:15a.m. Gates to Dowdy Ficklen Stadium will open at 8:00am for family members and guests.
After East Carolina University’s Commencement Ceremony at Minges Coliseum some schools/colleges will hold recognition ceremonies for their graduates on Friday, May 5th or Saturday, May 6th. Check out the School/College Recognition page for updated information for the time and location of those ceremonies.
